Jun 19 2026 | By: Kim Dung Ho
Judge Harmony Letizia's story reflects a lifelong commitment to serving Southern Nevada.
Born and raised in Las Vegas, Judge Letizia earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science with a minor in Spanish from the University of Arizona before obtaining her Juris Doctor, with a concentration in Litigation, from Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. During law school, she received multiple honors recognizing her litigation skills.
Prior to her election to the bench, Judge Letizia served as a Chief Deputy Public Defender in Clark County, representing indigent individuals in criminal proceedings. Her dedication and professionalism earned recognition from her peers as one of Nevada Business Magazine's Legal Elite Top 25 Government Attorneys in Nevada.
In November 2016, voters elected Judge Letizia as Justice of the Peace for Department 3 of the Las Vegas Justice Court. Since taking office, she has presided over criminal matters while also leading one of the court's most impactful specialty programs: the Veterans Treatment Court.
The Veterans Treatment Court recognizes that veterans often face unique challenges resulting from military service. Through a coordinated approach that connects participants with specialized resources and support systems, the program has achieved a success rate exceeding 90 percent, helping veterans successfully reintegrate into their communities and avoid future involvement with the criminal justice system.
Judge Letizia's leadership extends beyond the courtroom. She currently presides over the Las Vegas Justice Court Security Committee, serves on the Justice Court Executive Committee, and sits on the Nevada Supreme Court's Judicial Branch Security Commission.
Her influence also reaches into education. As Chair of The Meadows School, Judge Letizia helps guide one of Southern Nevada's most respected educational institutions. Founded through the vision of former Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman, The Meadows School has played an important role in educating generations of students and future leaders.
This combination of responsibilities makes Judge Letizia's leadership particularly distinctive. Her work sits at the intersection of justice, education, leadership, and legacy. Through her service in the judiciary, her stewardship of educational institutions, and her commitment to community leadership, she contributes to both the present and future of Southern Nevada.
Judge Harmony Letizia is part of the Nevada Leadership Archive, an ongoing portrait series documenting the leaders and institutions shaping Nevada's future.
