Women in Philanthropy: Portraits of Leadership Through Service
Mar 18 2026 | By: Kim Dung Ho
In recognition of Women’s History Month, I had the opportunity to collaborate with Crystal Hirschi and Julie A. Murray to bring together women whose leadership expresses itself through service, generosity, and long-term community impact.
The gathering created space for conversation, connection, and shared purpose among remarkable leaders in our community, and became the foundation for this portrait series.
Over the past year, I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with leaders across Southern Nevada, through civic organizations, business communities, and philanthropic initiatives. What stood out was how they show up: consistently, thoughtfully, and often behind the scenes. This series began as a way to document that presence, to create a visual record of leadership that is not always visible, but deeply felt.
This body of work brings together women from across philanthropy, business, and civic life. Each holds a different role, each leads in her own way, yet they are connected by a shared commitment to build, to give, and to leave something meaningful behind. These portraits are not meant to define them, but to reflect a moment in their ongoing work and impact.
The intention behind each portrait is presence. The way someone carries responsibility. The steadiness behind their decisions. The humanity behind their leadership. My role is to create a space where that presence can be seen.
The group portraits reflect collective leadership: women working across different sectors, yet aligned in purpose and contribution. There is a quiet strength in being part of something larger than oneself, and that sense of shared responsibility is what these images hold.
Each individual portrait carries a distinct energy. Some are direct and grounded, others softer and reflective, but all are shaped by experience, discipline, and a deep sense of responsibility to the communities they serve.
This project is part of an ongoing series documenting leadership across Nevada - from philanthropy to economic development to civic life. I’m interested in capturing who they are in the moments between decisions, in the presence they bring into a room, and in the impact that extends beyond what can be measured.
I’m grateful to the women who trusted me with this work.
Leadership is steady, consistent, and unseen. And yet, it shapes everything around it.
This series is a small attempt to make that visible.
